Our philosophy is that our main product is everlasting and positive vacation memories. We only recruit guides that have considerable knowledge about nature and safety, a structured mind and the positive spirit that is the core value of the company. We are concerned with the nature that surrounds us and have a philosophy of leaving no trace of our journey. The only thing we leave behind is ripples in the water.
In order to achieve the above we follow the policies below:
NJORD has a policy of training and employing local guides. We aim to have at least 50% local guides and instructors, we do not achieve this every year, however every season we have local youth in as trainee guides, some of these continue with us.
All NJORD guides are either qualified through the Norwegian Canoe Association (NPF), British Canoe Union (BCU), American Canoe Association (ACA) or European Paddle Pass (EPP).
All senior guides are NOLS alumini, NOLS Wilderness First Responder qualified and Leave No Trace Educators.
All guides have taken part in the 2-week Guide Training Program. This program focuses on: safety issues, technical kayaking skills, customer relations, guide skills, local culture and history and environmental awareness.
All guides must have a valid first aid qualification equivalent to the NOLS Wilderness First Aid course. Our prefered First Aid qualification is the NOLS Wilderness First Aid (3 days) and NOLS Wilderness First Responder (10 days) for senior guides. A senior guide will have a minimum of three seasons of experience.
NJORD operates strictly with a no-impact profile. Our tours have zero emissions and will leave only ripples in the water as a sign that we have been in an area. All food served on our tours will be purchased locally and preferably grown and made locally, thus supporting the local community.
Njord is an active member of Leave No Trace (LNT), Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), Norwegian Centre of Expertise Tourism (NCE), The Nærøyfjord World Heritage Park, SAKTE, Kayak the Fjords Adventure company Network
We do not use disposable plates, cup or cutlery.
We aim to reduce vehicular transport down to an absolute minimum.
We purchase CO2 quotas in order to be a zero emission company.
Our one point of bad conscience on the environmental issue is our Volkswagen caravelle 9 seater vans, if there had been electrical ones on the market we would use those.
